The series maps to all eight Next Generation Science Standards practices — but standards describe the floor, not the ceiling. The real goal is building the disposition of a scientist: the habit of noticing, the refusal to accept surfaces, the pleasure of not knowing yet.
Mira doesn't know what NGSS stands for. She just refuses to stop asking why. That is, apparently, the same thing.
